My Story
|
Growing up, I was always active and outside. In school I played sports but never knew the science behind diet and exercise. Growing up though, I was in gymnastics, took swimming and tennis lessons, played softball for 7 years, and volleyball for 5 years. When I graduated in 2000, I went to a Community College for Visual Arts, Photography, and Biology and graduated with three associate degrees in 2007. While I was there creating art and writing, hiking, doing yoga, backpacking and shooting nature, I got into martial arts in 2003. I have a blue belt in Moo Duk Kwan and was on the demo team and did some tournaments and placed. I then moved to finish school and wanted something to keep my fitness up. I read about the National Personal Training Institute and took a train to see what they were all about.
From there I learned about their residential program. In 2007, I found a place on craigslist and moved down and it was awesome! I trained five days a week, swam, trained my classmates, ran, and had a great time learning how to program diet and exercise! Once I came back home, I went to a four year University for Exercise Science and was a Personal Trainer at their recreation center and trained students that were trying out for collegiate sports, students that were just trying to get in shape and lose weight, and faculty. I trained men and women of all fitness levels while I was there and it was a top notch facility and a great experience. Since I've graduated in May of 2014, I have been training clients out of gyms and in their homes. I have also competed in RPS Powerlifting in 2016 and set state records in all lifts. Also, I learned along the way that I probably have Ehlers-Danlos just based on many years of hypermobility follies and consults with physical therapists and chiropractors. Getting that under control was a hurdle in my training and joint stability. The best thing for it was Olympic weightlifting with a combination of yoga, which is why I practice it year round now. Currently, I practice and sub Vinyasa yoga. I have been a competitive 71kg Master Weightlifter for about one year now, and the current state record holder for 148lb Deadlift as a Submaster through RPS powerlifting. I am a USA L-1 Sports Performance Coach. Also, lifting heavy does so much for bone density - it's so remarkable. More people should know how to do it and practice it safely. |
